History

Richard Caldwell, CEO of the Law Office of Richard D. Caldwell PLLC - a boutique law firm focusing on probate litigation and fiduciary services in the District of Columbia (D.C.) and surrounding Maryland counties- is a licensed attorney in D.C., Florida, Maryland, with admission to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Mr. Caldwell’s current focus involves defending cases in which individuals are alleged to lack incapacity and serving as a Court-Appointed Guardian, Conservator, Guardian ad litem, Special Administrator and Personal Representative in dozens of cases since joining the D.C. Probate Fiduciary Panel in 2015.  Expertise in other probate areas include common-law marriage and heirship disputes. Furthermore, Mr. Caldwell offers expert advisory services on decedent’s estates and probate administration process efficiencies to the D.C.-based civic organization Council for Court Excellence and the D.C. Access to Justice Commission.

Prior to focusing on probate litigation and fiduciary services, Mr. Caldwell worked on appellate matters, and general civil litigation, focused on an array of diverse issues, such as: adverse possession, civil asset forfeiture, divorce, domestic violence, foreclosure defense, landlord/tenant, negligence, and personal injury. Mr. Caldwell has significant trial experience and will litigate for your interests. Richard D. Caldwell

Mr. Caldwell holds a J.D. from the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America (2012) where he served as a staff associate and associate editor of The Journal of Contemporary Health Law and Policy (Outstanding Staff Member Award, 2011).  While in law school, Richard also served as a licensed student attorney in the Columbus Community Legal Services General Practice Clinic, and the Criminal Division of the D.C. Law Students in Court program, a clinical program that allowed students to litigate in D.C. Superior Court, under supervision.  Mr. Caldwell also holds a M.A. and B.A. (magna cum laude) from Eastern Illinois University.
